Measured offline on 8 September 2026: 30 of 40 (big 11 of 20, embers 19 of 20), hottest word 19 of 40. Eight anchors per side scored 26; sixteen per side score 30. Controls: 20 random directions through the same centre average 20.8, best 28; the anchors with shuffled labels average 20.6, best 29; leave-one-out on the 32 anchors 25. So the direction is real and not strong, and forty sentences is a small test. The misses are the mild ones: "more wood please", "throw another log on", "make it bigger". It knows "inferno"; it does not know that asking for wood means the same thing. Negation is beyond it: "not roaring anymore" reads as roaring. All 40 sentences were written by the author of the anchors; sentences from other people are the next step.
